Biography

Dr. Faccio works as a patent scientist at Da Vinci Partners LLC, helping clients in the life sciences, pharma and nanotechnologies describe the gist of their inventions in words, which can then be transformed into patent applications.

Dr. Faccio earned her Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Helsinki, Finland, in 2011 with a thesis on the discovery of fungal enzymes for food texture engineering. In addition, she earned her master’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Insubria, in Varese, Italy with a thesis in biochemistry on enzyme engineering.

Dr. Faccio has worked as IP manager for a biotech company, a compliance manager for a MedTech company, as well as a freelance scientist and scientific consultant mainly for startup companies. She also worked almost four years for Just International AG in research and innovation as well as a number of years as a scientist for various companies and institutions, including Empa, where she is named as a co-inventor in at least one case.

Her research work spans from food science to biocatalysis and from protein engineering to functional materials. She has more than 45 published scientific articles and various book chapters and popular science articles. She also participated in the international Erasmus exchange program at Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, England.

Her mother tongue is Italian but she speaks some Finnish and Spanish, and is fluent in English and German as well.
